DENTAL IMPLANTS
Preserving our natural teeth is always the best and most desirable solution for oral health. Dental conditions (cavities, fractures), as well as diseases affecting the surrounding tissues (gingivitis, periodontitis), inevitably lead to tooth loss.
Dental implants are the most advanced and effective solution offered by modern dentistry for the restoration of missing teeth.
Dental implants are artificial titanium posts shaped and sized similarly to the roots of natural teeth, and they are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw.
Accurate and careful preoperative planning for each case is crucial for success. During the initial evaluation, the patient’s medical history is reviewed, a clinical examination is performed, and dental impressions are taken to create study models. The patient is then referred for radiographic assessment using a cone-beam CT scan ( CBCT). Once all this information has been collected, a personalized treatment plan is created, and the surgical phase is initiated.
The surgery is performed by a specialized dental surgeon after consultation with the treating dentist, who communicates the treatment plan (implant positions and number). The procedure is carried out under local anesthesia. The time required for the integration of an implant, known as osseointegration, depends on the quality and quantity of the bone as well as the implant’s location, and typically ranges from 3 to 4 months. During this healing period, a temporary prosthesis is used to meet the patient’s aesthetic and functional needs.
After the osseointegration period, the implant is uncovered in the mouth, and the process of fabricating the prosthetic restoration begins. Impressions are taken, and the prosthesis is fabricated in the laboratory, then screwed onto the implant. In the case of a single-tooth restoration, a crown is placed. If multiple teeth are missing, a bridge is created, fully supported by the implants. In cases where all teeth are missing, an implant-supported overdenture or a hybrid restoration (a combination of a bridge and denture) is fabricated, depending on the individual case.
